The CHAMP Elite Team Program is CHAMP’s longest standing and greatest impacting initiative. Teams apply for the Elite Team Award and receive the Elite Team designation when they have demonstrated during their athletic season character excellence, both on and off the field, by designing and implementing a season-long character development plan, completing at least one community service project, and by submitting testimonials from parents, players, and officials of the impact a focus on character had on the team. Currently, CHAMP receives applications for Elite Team status from Poudre School District High Schools and Junior Highs, City of Fort Collins Recreation teams, as well as from a number of youth athletic clubs including the Fort Collins Baseball Club and the Fort Collins Soccer Club. Teams who obtain the Elite Team Award are recognized by CHAMP through individual player certificates, a shirt, backpack, hat or visor, and recognition in the local paper and at the annual CHAMP Celebration Breakfast.
The CHAMP Star Team of Character recognition, aims to recognize coaches and teams who compete in short season programs (typically recreation leagues and junior high programs that run less than 8 weeks) which do not have the time to fully implement a CHAMP Elite Team process. The purpose of the CHAMP Star Team Recognition program is to reach the majority of our young athletes competing in recreation leagues by providing them with an already created, easy-to-implement character development plan which they can immediately use during their short seasons. Typically this program is best suited for new coaches who want an easy hands on approach to looking for deliberate character qualities to emphasize during their season. Youth teams who fulfill these requirements are recognized before the end of their season or right after completing their season with CHAMP materials.
